Biography
Tim Hughes is a native
Virginian raised in Arlington and Fairfax Counties. He attended Yale
University and received his Bachelor of Arts in History in 1988. In
1991, Tim received his J.D. from the Marshall Wythe School of Law at
William and Mary.
Admitted to the Bar of the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1991, he
practiced in complex civil litigation in a variety of firms before
starting his own firm in August 2000. In his practice, he has been
involved in a wide variety of complex litigation matters, including
construction litigation, commercial landlord/tenant, accounting
malpractice, large scale collections disputes, business merger and
acquisition disputes, employment contract disputes, real estate and
lending disputes, and others.
Tim has extensive litigation experience including jury and bench
trial experience in both state and federal courts. He has appeared
in trial courts throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as
the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland. He also has
extensive experience utilizing alternative dispute resolution
procedures including both arbitration and mediation. In addition to
litigation experience, Tim’s clients include many businesses on
corporate and contract matters.
Tim is currently admitted to the bars of the Commonwealth of
Virginia, the District of Columbia, the United States District Court
for the Eastern District of Virginia, the United States District
Court for the Western District of Virginia, and the Fourth Circuit
Court of Appeals. He is the Chair-Elect of the Construction and
Public Contracts Section of the Virginia State Bar. He is a member
of the American Institute of Architects and winner of the Affiliate
Member of the Year award for the Northern Virginia Chapter. He is
also a member of the Arlington and Fairfax Chambers of Commerce.
Finally, he is a member of the Northern Virginia Building Industry
Association.
Tim is a frequent speaker before a variety of groups on business,
litigation and construction related topics. He also has published a
number of pieces in professional and trade journals relating to
